ifm Cylinder sensors
In most automation systems, cylinder sensors are indispensable to control production.
Precise position on cylinders by means of compact sensors in the fields of packaging technology, handling technology, factory automation and process engineering is very important to ensure smooth production.
Their high switching frequencies, mechanical robustness and easy handling qualify them also for other applications in the field of automation.
The cylinder sensors are inserted in the T-slot of a cylinder and mechanical fixed to detect the end positions of the piston in the cylinder.
Every time it is in the detection range of the sensor, a signal for further processing is sent to the controller.
ifm’s Cylinder sensors are used for position detection of pistons in pneumatic cylinders. They are directly mounted onto the cylinder.
The ring magnet attached to the piston is sensed through the housing wall of non-magnetisable material (e.g. aluminium, brass or stainless steel).
They can be fixed to almost any T-slot, C-slot, clean-line, tie rod, integrated profile or trapezoidal slot cylinder.
Thanks to their short housing length, these inductive sensors are perfectly suited for applications where space is at a premium.
This makes them an ideal choice for robotics, assembly and handling applications. The small sensors reach switching frequencies of up to 5’000 Hz and this is over the whole temperature range.
The stainless steel house allows a tightening torque during the mounting which is up to two times higher than in the case of standard sensors.
