ifm MR1010 Cylinder Sensors
Position sensors are nowadays indispensable in industrial applications to reliably detect positions on machines.
As compared to mechanical switches, inductive, capacitive and magnetic sensors offer almost ideal conditions: operation without contact and wear as well as high switching frequencies and accuracy. In addition, they are insensitive to vibration, dust and moisture.
Cylinder sensors are used for position detection in pneumatics cylinders. They are directly mounted onto cylinder. The ring magnet attached to the piston is sensed through the housing wall of non-magnetisable material (e.g. aluminium, brass or stainless steel).
They can be fixed to almost any T-slot, C-slot, clean-line, tie rod, integrated profile or trapezoidal slot cylinder.
The MR10101 are T-slot cylinder sensors, which can be easily inserted from above into the T-slot where it clicks home. For switch point positioning the sensor can simply be moved in the slot. It is fixed definitely using the slotted / hexagonal socket screw.
Non-contact sensors virtually work without wear and often achieve a longer life than Reed switches. This saves expensive repair and downtimes. The MR1010 has a self-locking fixture for quick mounting and easy adjustment.
It fits easy into a slot by being able to be ‘dropped from the top’ and the moulded cable ensures very good strain relief.
With combined AC/DC output and two-wire technology and a very high switching frequency, the MR1010 Cylinder sensors are a very useful bit of kit for industrial application.
DBI Control have used the ifm MR1010 Cylinder Sensor recently in a project to manufacture a rig to apply heat to 4 separate locations on an A Base to heat the spru produced during the moulding process.
In this project the MR10101 was connected to the EVC141 female cordset which is resistant to coolants and oils and has permanent, reliable sealing even when mounted with tools. The cordset has a high protection rating for the requirements of harsh industrial environments and has a mechanical end stop to protect the O-ring from destruction.
