ifms MVQ Position sensors for valve actuators
Position sensors are nowadays indispensable in industrial applications to reliably detect positions on machines.
Compared to mechanical switches; inductive, capacitive and magnetic sensors offer ideal characteristics: non-contact operation free from any wear and tear, high switching frequencies and accuracy. In addition, they are insensitive to vibration, dust and moisture.
In industrial processes where liquids, air or gases are used, valves are needed for dosing and control. Valve sensors reliably signal the positions of valve actuators, valves, slides and flaps.
The smart valve sensor matches settings to the application software or inductive teach button. Any end position of the valve and the size of the sensing range can be set.
A third switch point can be selected, for example for three-way valves or for switching off the pup to avoid pressure peaks.
The IO-Link communication interface allows the identification of different wear conditions.
On the one hand, the sensor features seal monitoring indicating a chance of the closed position, which can point to deposits or wear of the seal for example.
On the other hand, the different positions can be counted, and the time taken can be measured.
The MVQ range continuously monitors the position of the valve to the nearest degree. Via the “Auto teach” function, the end positions are automatically approached and taught.
The control valve can be easily connected via the separate M12 connection and be controlled via IO-Link. This reduces wiring and installation complexity – reducing possible sources of error and data transmission’s susceptibility to failure.
Moreover, additional information, e.g. altered closing and opening durations is provided via IO-Link and can then be processed either in the SMART OBSERVER or in the controller.
The defined valve positions are signalled via two switching outputs as well as via the clearly visible status LED.
The sensor also detects altered closing durations, which suggest wear, deposits or blockages due to foreign bodies, and signals them via IO-Link.
This allows for demand-orientated maintenance planning or immediate troubleshooting, which help avoid longer and costly plant downtimes. To simplify localisation, the selected device flashes green in flash mode.
